Music Accompanist
Purpose Statement
The role of Music Accompanist is done for the purpose/s of providing musical accompaniment for music rehearsals, competitions, and concerts.
Job Title: Music Accompanist
Hourly Wage: $18.18/hour
Reports To: Building Administration and music teachers assigned to
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated excellence as a music accompanist
- Demonstrated ability to provide great customer service
- Demonstrated ability to maintain composure under pressure
- Experience working with students, preferred
Essential Functions
- Analyze assigned music prior to rehearsal and performances (e.g. correct tempos, challenging transitions, dynamics, etc.) for ensuring efficient use of rehearsal time and performance schedules.
- Aid the teacher in supervising student activities for ensuring efficient use of class time and maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Assist in the planning of concerts and recitals for displaying student performances.
- Exhibit professional and stage etiquette for serving as a model of professionalism at musical productions.
- Provide musical accompaniment for serving as a pianist during music classes, auditions, rehearsals, concerts, competitions, and other student performances.
- Rehearse with music groups for playing full and sectional accompaniment.
- Attend meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.
Other Functions
- Participate in staff development training programs, meetings, and special events, as assigned.
- Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work without close supervision.

- Is respectful and appropriately interacts with staff, students, and visitors.
- Uphold and adhere to safety rules and policies of the Ankeny Community School District safety program.
- Support the goals and objectives of the school district and follow all district policies.
- Demonstrate the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to
- district operations.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
- Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Working Environment
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include play a musical instrument (piano) at an advanced level.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include various musical styles.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment.
Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include read sheet music; and the ability to work sporadic and/or evening hours.
