Camp/Clinic Assistant

 

Purpose Statement

The Camp/Clinic Assistant, partnering with the Camp/Clinic Lead Organizer, helps with the organization, fulfillment, and direction of a designated camp and/or clinic with the Ankeny Community School District. Duties may include carrying out practice planning, skill development, and following strategies designed by the lead organizer; observing and guiding student-athletes; and demonstrating adherence to district rules and regulations.

 

Job Title: Camp/Clinic Assistant

Reports To:  Camps and Clinics Coordinator

Wage: Wages for Camps/Clinics are subject to negotiation.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid coaching license through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners or the ability to obtain it prior to the start of the season.
  • Previous experience working a camp/clinic, preferred.
  • Previous coaching experience, preferred.
  • Previous experience coaching within the specified sport/activity.
  • Strong knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, instruct, and supervise students athletes 
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm.
  • Proficient in organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to follow direction from the designated camp organizer of specified camp or clinic.
  • Teach and promote athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect and sportsmanship. 
  • Assess student performance for purposes of providing feedback on his/her individual performance and/or determining team placement. 
  • Collaborate with the camp/clinic lead organizer, as appropriate, on instructional strategies, organization of practices, supervision guidelines, and responsibilities for the purposes of developing the camp/clinic at all levels. 
  • Adhere to injury prevention procedures established by Ankeny CSD. 
  • Collaboratively work to enhance sportsmanship throughout the entirety of the camp/clinic.
  • Take precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities. 
  • Accompany and supervise students throughout the entirety of the camp/clinic. 

Other Functions

  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work without close supervision.                
  • Demonstrate integrity and maintain confidentiality.
  •  Is respectful and appropriately interacts with staff, students, and visitors.
  •  Uphold and adhere to safety rules and policies of the Ankeny Community School District safety program.
  •  Support the goals and objectives of the school district and follow all district policies.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
  • Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Working Environment 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands:  significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity.  Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
