Nutrition Services Team Member

(Cook I, Cook II, Cook III)

 

Purpose Statement

Promote a culture of health and wellness in the Ankeny Community School District by providing safe and nutritious foods that support the learning process.  Support Nutrition Services in achieving expectations outlined in the position job schedule, Acts of PRIDE, Operational Guidelines, USDA Guidelines, and Iowa Food Code.

 

 

Job Title:  Nutrition Services Team Member

Hourly Wage:

  • Cook I:  $17.00/hour
  • Cook II: $17.55/hour - (ServSafe Certified)
  • Cook III: $18.05/hour - (ServSafe Certified); (Preparing and Cooking Food)

Hours: 10:30 A.M. - 1:30 P.M.

Reports To:  Nutrition Services Management 

Wage/Hour Status:  Non-Exempt

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED, preferred
  • Ability to read basic operating instructions
  • Demonstrates a reasonable degree of computer proficiency
  • This position requires that the individual is able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Successful candidates are subject to post-offer pre-employment physical.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Food service experience of at least one-year
  • Hospitality industry cooking experience (Schools, Healthcare, Restaurant, Catering)

Essential Functions

  • Provide EXCELLENT customer service to all people in accordance with department standards
  • Serve menu items quickly and accurately to meet department standards
  • Dependability, punctuality, and initiative are required
  • Completion of all mandatory trainings by required date
  • Appropriate hygiene and uniform required in accordance with operational guidelines
  • Food prep in accordance to standardized recipes while maintaining quality food standards including temperature, taste, and appearance
  • Cleaning of all areas including but not limited to:  Sweeping/mopping floors, washing tables, dishes, pots/pans and work areas
  • Setting up and organizing all service areas according to department standards
  • Responsible for stocking, organizing, and completing inventory of assigned areas in compliance with FIFO (First-In First-Out) and department standards
  • Ability to setup and operate computer systems
  • Ability to maintain composure and problem solve in a fast paced environment
  • Responsible for knowing and executing food service best practices according to SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Responsible for filling out all appropriate paperwork in a timely manner including but not limited to: temperature logs and production usage records
  • Develop and maintain an effective level of communication with appropriate personnel
  • Perform other duties to be assigned by your Team Leader and/or Manager.

 

Other Functions 

  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work without close supervision.                
  • Demonstrates integrity and maintains confidentiality.
  • Works well with others, maintaining positive and effective communication with all school personnel.
  • Is respectful and appropriately interacts with staff, students, and visitors.
  • Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the Ankeny Community School District safety program. 
  • Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
  • Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to   
  • nutrition operations.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others. 
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. 
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. 

 

Working Environment 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands:  significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. This position requires the individual to wear and work in personal protective equipment. This position requires that the individual is able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity.  Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress. 

 

Responsibility 

Responsibilities include working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform position functions.  There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.

Work year established by the Superintendent; Salary according to schedule adopted annually.
