Electrician

Purpose Statement

To provide ongoing improvement and maintenance of lighting, electrical equipment and all components associated with the equipment.  Installation of CAT 6 wiring, HVAC equipment, and other low voltage wiring.  Also, maintenance of wiring and equipment.  



Job Title:  Electrician

Hourly Wage: $32.50/hr. Journeyman, $36.30/hr. Masters

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or equivalent in electrical or approved apprentice program.
  • Electrician, Licensed with the State of Iowa.
  • Minimum of five years experience working in the electrical field.
  • Experience in HVAC, control work, and wiring.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

Essential Functions

  • Troubleshoots and repairs a variety of electric, electronic and low voltage equipment.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of electrical systems and the components related to the systems.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of HVAC systems to include controls, components, and other associated systems.        
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and updates fire alarm systems, and other low voltage systems. These systems may include, but are not limited to, telephone, cat 6 wiring, close circuit TV, HVAC, and security systems.
  • Uses and understands various diagnostic tools and equipment necessary for the repair, adjustment, and performance monitoring of above related systems.
  • Stays current on electrical, NFPA, and OSHA codes and is familiar with safe workplace practices.
  • Assists with ongoing programs to maintain preventative maintenance programs. Assists and helps coordinate formal training for school district employees, including custodial staff.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all light mechanical and electrical equipment typically used in school facilities, and is able to order repair parts and/or make general repairs, as needed.
  • Is available for 24 hour emergency service and/or snow removal.
  • Is physically capable to work with all equipment directly. May be required to lift up to 75 pounds. Physical flexibility may be needed.
  • Reports in a timely manner the presence of all environmental hazards or dangerous substances to include, but not limited to, asbestos or PCB’s discovered in or around district premises to immediate supervisor.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions of a technical nature as related to high and low voltage systems and operations; and develops and maintains an effective level of communication with appropriate building and administrative personnel.
  • Maintains a continuing program of staff development and training to develop a competent workforce.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

  • Demonstrates integrity and maintains confidentiality.
  • Works well with others, maintaining positive and effective communication with school personnel and works well with other custodians on jobs that require more than one person. 
  • Is respectful and appropriately interacts with staff, students, and visitors.
  • Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the Ankeny Community School District safety program. 
  • Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
  • Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to   
  • district operations.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others. 
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. 
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
  • Must be open to a possible on-call rotation as deemed necessary by management.

 

Working Environment 

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands:  significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity.  Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
