TITLE: Before & After School Program – Summer Adventures Camp Program Assistant  
                                  
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   

16 years of age
Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with students
Team player with exceptional human relations skills
Ability to read lesson plans
Ability to take direction and perform tasks with little supervision
Ability to perform multiple duties simultaneously
Exemplary organizational skills
Ability to be flexible with a willingness to learn

Ability to implement program procedures                                                          

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Enrolled in an institution of higher education or degreed professional
Experience working with school-age youth
Experience managing large groups of school-age youth

JOB GOAL: Provide a safe, secure and structured environment while assisting parents and customers, and assisting with implementation of positive classroom management techniques, and high-quality, hands-on Before & After School Program educational, recreational, and/or enrichment curriculum.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administer quality Before & After School Program Summer Adventures Camp program while adhering to, and having a firm understanding of, District policy and program procedures.
  2. Communicate program expectations and procedures clearly, effectively, and in a positive manner to students.
  3. Compile and maintain accurate student attendance, databases, and communication logs.
  4. Successfully implement positive student behavior management techniques.
  5. Successfully assist with implementing high-quality, hands-on, engaging, and age-appropriate academic-enrichment and recreational curriculum/programs.
  6. Actively participate and engage in activities with students; not just supervise or observe.
  7. Present a positive image of the program while providing exemplary customer care and following program procedures to safely dismiss students from the program.
  8. Establish a positive, supportive, and working relationship with site leader(s) and site staff team.
  9. Develop and maintain an effective level of communication with appropriate personnel, including program staff, district administrators, and the program manager.  Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
  10. Demonstrate responsible control over assigned program resources.  Ensure materials and supplies are available.
  11. Attend work regularly, routinely, and on time. 
  12. Monitor Summer Adventures Camp facility maintenance and cleanliness.
  13. Have, or be able to obtain, current adult and child CPR and First Aid Certification with AED training within designated timeline.
  14. Maintain a continuing program of staff development and training, including active participation in required trainings and meetings.  Implement new techniques, as required.
  15. Assist with special event programming, field trips, and guest speakers.
  16. Some evening and weekend hours may be required on a limited basis.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager or Site Leader(s).

 

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:             

Bending, carrying, climbing, driving, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:           

Includes extremes of temperature and humidity.  Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:                
Salary: $11/hour (Ankeny CSD certified teachers with current district contract: paid per current year’s agreement)

Employees are provided with paid sick leave per the District policies.  No other paid leave is available.

 

Working Days:

Attend required Professional Development, including Orientation & Training – as scheduled, prior to start date

Attend site team meetings, as scheduled (potentially outside of program hours)

Contract days: June 1 – August 16, 2020

  • Monday through Friday on camp days
  • 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Individual employee hours TBD.  Hours may vary week-to-week.  Work hours may/may not match program hours, depending on employee qualifications, availability, and program need.
  • Employees are scheduled up to 29-40 hours per week

EVALUATION:                                                   

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy on Evaluation of Classified

personnel.  These employees are not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
