TITLE:  Before & After School Program – School-Year Teacher        
                            
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:             

High School diploma or equivalent
Ability to maintain positive discipline and motivate students while having fun
Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with students
Team player with exceptional human relations skills
Ability to read and implement lesson plans
Ability to take direction and perform advanced tasks with little supervision
Exemplary organizational skills
Ability to carry through multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Ability to be flexible with a willingness to learn
Ability to implement program procedures
                                                           
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:   

Certified teacher or degreed professional or minimum two years college experience
Minimum 2 years classroom/relevant experience working with school-age youth

JOB GOAL:  Provide a safe, secure, and structured instructional environment while implementing positive classroom management techniques and high-quality,  hands-on Before & After School Program educational, recreational, and/or enrichment curriculum.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administer quality Before & After School Program while adhering to District policy, program procedures, and Iowa Department of Human Services minimum standards.
  2. Firm understanding of District and program policy and procedures, and Iowa Department of Human Services minimum standards, to maintain student safety and security, and to respond appropriately to parent inquiries/concerns.
  3. Communicate program expectations and procedures clearly, effectively, and in a positive manner to students.
  4. Compile and maintain accurate student attendance, databased, and communication logs.
  5. Successfully implement positive student behavior management techniques.
  6. Successfully implement high-quality, hands-on, engaging, and age-appropriate academic-enrichment and recreational curriculum/programs.
  7. Actively participate and engage in activities with students; not just supervise or observe.
  8. Prepare high-quality, hands-on, engaging, and age-appropriate curriculum, when necessary.
  9. Ability to adapt instructional activities to assist and meet the needs of the students.
  10. Present a positive image of the program while providing exemplary customer care and following program procedures to safely dismiss students from the program.
  11. Establish a positive, supportive, and working relationship with site leader(s) and site staff team.
  12. Develop and maintain an effective level of communication with appropriate personnel, including program staff, district administrators, and program manager. Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
  13. Demonstrate responsible control over assigned program resources.  Ensure materials and supplies are available.
  14. Attend work regularly, routinely, and on time. Find approved substitute for absences when necessary.
  15. Monitor Before & After School Program facility maintenance and cleanliness.
  16. Maintain a continuing program of personal professional development, including active participation in required trainings and meetings to improve program quality and ensure compliance with Iowa Department of Human Services minimum standards. Actively implement program initiatives and new learning, as required.
  17. Have, or be able to obtain, current adult and child CPR and First Aid Certification with AED training within designated timeline.
  18. Assist with special event programming, field trips, and guest speakers.
  19. Some evening and weekend hours may be required on a limited basis.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager or Site Leader(s).

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Bending, carrying, climbing, driving, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:           

Includes extremes of temperature and humidity.  Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:            
Salary: $14.00-$18.00/hour, based on qualifications and experience

Employees are provided with paid sick leave per the District policy.  No other paid leave is available.

 

Working Days:

Attend Required Professional Development: Staff Orientation and Training – as scheduled

Attend additional youth development and other professional development, as required

Attend site team meetings as scheduled, potentially outside of regular program hours

Employment dates: August 16 – June 3, 2021

  • Hours: Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri 6:15 – 7:45 a.m. / Wed 6:15 – 8:45 a.m.
  • Hours: Monday – Friday 2:45 – 6:00 p.m.
  • No-School Day Camps – required availability 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., as enrollment requires
  • Extended Break Camp (winter, spring) – required availability 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., as enrollment requires
  • Inclement Weather Program Days – per Handbook inclement weather hours

 

Position hours vary and are part-time.  Total weekly hours will not exceed 29.75; exact hours are per individual employment agreement.  Positions are scheduled in sessions (approximate 9-week increments).  Length of contract: one session with the opportunity to extend the position for additional sessions throughout the program year, pending satisfactory performance evaluation.

 

EVALUATION:                                                

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy on Evaluation of Classified

personnel.  These employees are not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
