Substitute Building Secretary
Purpose Statement
The position of Substitute Building Secretary is to efficiently and effectively perform office and clerical duties in support of daily school operations and activities including providing assistance to students, staff, parents, visitors, explaining policies and procedures, providing general information related to policies and procedures, ensuring safety and security of students and staff. A building secretary works under the supervision of building administration.

Hourly Wage: $14.65/hour
Reports To: Building Principal
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Vary based on building, location, and need
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Strong communication skills
- Strong relationship skills
- Strong organization and accuracy
- Experience working with children, preferred
- Experience as a secretary or receptionist, preferred
- Proficient in technology skills
Essential Functions
- Work well with school personnel, parents, and the public.
- Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Completes all school business operations with accuracy.
- Complete basic clerical and office tasks with efficiency.
- Work efficiently and effectively without close supervision.
- Provide great customer service, information, and assistance to school personnel, parents, and the public.
- Creating a warm and friendly office environment.
- Provide a variety of clerical and office assistant duties related to the day to day business needs of the school.
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Manages the schools requisitions and purchase orders.
- Manages the school cash handling and money receipts.
- Demonstrates integrity and maintains confidentiality.
- Is respectful and appropriately interacts with school personnel, parents, and the public.
- Works well with others, maintaining positive and effective communication with all school personnel, parents, and the public.
- Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the Ankeny Community School District safety program.
- Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
- Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
Other Functions
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Working Environment
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
