Swim Practice/Meet - Lifeguard
Purpose Statement
The role of Lifeguard is to supervise and oversee student swimmers at assigned swim meets and act immediately to ensure the safety of individuals in the event of an emergency. Provide water rescue, first aid, administer oxygen and emergency care and treatment as required.
Job Title: Swim Meet Lifeguard Hourly Wage: $14.00 /hour
Reports To: Activity Directors
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt
Minimum Qualifications:
- Lifeguard and First Aid certified certification
- CPR/AED certification
Essential Functions
- Take preventative measures by enforcing all pool rules and safety rules.
- Monitor the pool deck during assigned swim events.
- Ensure pool safety for all student-swimmers and patrons.
- Monitors designated area to recognize signs of danger.
- Warn swimmers and patrons regarding unsafe situations.
- Explain and enforce rules, regulations, and policies during swim meet(s).
- Immediately rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administer first aid.
- Perform first aid procedures.
- Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns for the purpose of taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Respond to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and/or visitors for the purpose of providing information, taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Informs site personnel for the purpose of providing information and direction regarding activities, safety issues and/or proper maintenance of pool facilities and equipment.
- Attend meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.
Other Functions
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as assigned.
- Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work without close supervision.
- Demonstrate integrity and maintain confidentiality.
- Is respectful and appropriately interacts with staff, students, and visitors.
- Uphold and adhere to safety rules and policies of the Ankeny Community School District safety program.
- Support the goals and objectives of the school district and follow all district policies.
- Demonstrate the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
- Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Working Environment
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
